Category 6 Energy Drink Packaging

Typography is a big part of graphic design. Type as image is a concept that designers have been embracing for decades. I wanted to take this concept and implement it into a design of my own.

I chose to take an old-style “8” and deconstruct it to create a unique pictorial sign to use as a logo, and I cropped and reflected this symbol multiple times to create a pattern. My pictorial sign resembled the icon of a hurricane, so I used this idea to create an energy drink that was so intense it would make whoever drank it feel powerful. With this idea in mind, I took the highest level of a hurricane’s strength (category 5) and increased the level of intensity to 6. Each flavor of this drink is named after a different natural disaster (i.e., lightning, tsunami, wildfire, etc.) to hone in on the intensity scales they are all referred to by. My goals for this design were to make a can that was aesthetically pleasing and gave the feeling of intensity that I was aiming for.
